Description
The Gauldrons Eclipse is a striking limited-edition blended malt from independent bottler Douglas Laing & Co., built exclusively from single-cask single-malts sourced in Scotland’s Campbeltown region. For the first time in the range, Eclipse is matured in ex-“orange wine” casks — wine barrels previously holding skin-contact white wine from Jerez de la Frontera, Andalusia — giving the whisky a unique, sun-kissed twist.
Bottled at natural cask strength (52.9% vol.), with no added colouring and no chill filtration, Eclipse is crafted with integrity and character — a robust, complex dram that fuses maritime Scotch tradition with Mediterranean-inspired wine-cask depth.
Tasting Notes
- Nose: Malt foundation meets bright orange peel, dried apricots and toasted almonds — a harmonious mix of fruit, zest, and nutty warmth.
- Palate: Welcoming and full-bodied — walnuts and honey provide richness, while notes of ginger and ripe stone fruits bring softness and depth.
- Finish: Lingering and spiced, with a distinct tangy-orange twist and nutty undertones that echo the wine-cask character and leave a subtly exotic, slightly “otherworldly” impression.
Overall Character:
The Gauldrons Eclipse is a bold, inventive Campbeltown-style blended malt. It balances the traditional malt and maritime backbone of the region with bright citrus, dried fruit and nut-driven complexity from the orange wine casks — ideal for drinkers that enjoy both depth and originality in their whisky.
