New Grove Inception 2004: The Beginning of a Legacy in Mauritius Rum

The history of rum in Mauritius is one of rebirth. After more than a century of prohibition, Mauritian distilleries were finally allowed to craft premium rums in the early 2000s. At the forefront of this revival was New Grove, a name now synonymous with both tradition and innovation.

In 2004, New Grove began ageing its freshly distilled rum, marking the foundation of a new era. Two decades later, this vision culminates in the release of New Grove Inception 2004, a 21-year-old masterpiece.

Distilled from molasses after 35 hours of fermentation, and aged in both French Limousin oak and ex-cognac barrels, this rum is a testament to patience and craftsmanship. The nose bursts with caramelized sugar, molasses, yellow fruits, and sweet spices. The palate is a gourmand exploration of orchards, revealing citrus peel, peach, apricot, and prunes, layered with refined spice. The finish is long, fresh, and powerfully elegant, marked by subtle peppermint notes.

With only two barrels selected for this release, New Grove Inception 2004 is more than just rum—it is history in a bottle. A collector’s piece and a connoisseur’s delight, it represents the very spirit of Mauritius.

New Grove, a renowned Mauritian rum distillery, offers two exceptional 8-year-old rums finished in whisky casks: the Rozelieures Whisky Cask Finish and the Islay Cask Finish.
