Exploring Two New Cadenhead’s Gems: Craigellachie 18-Year-Old 2006 & Tomatin 16-Year-Old 2009

Cadenhead’s, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler, continues to impress whisky lovers worldwide with unique releases that capture the true essence of Scotland’s distilleries. Two recent highlights from their Original Collection are the Craigellachie 18-Year-Old 2006 and the Tomatin 16-Year-Old 2009.

Craigellachie 18-Year-Old 2006

Distilled in 2006 and bottled after 18 years of maturation, this Speyside single malt is a rich, indulgent dram. Expect aromas of stewed grapes and white chocolate on the nose, followed by velvety layers of leather, dark chocolate, Matcha, and pistachio. The finish lingers with festive fruit cake, lemon zest, peanut butter, and chocolate raisins. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is elegant yet full of character.

Tomatin 16-Year-Old 2009

From the Highlands, this 16-year-old Tomatin showcases a softer, more playful side of Scotch whisky. The nose opens with buttery notes, brandy, stroopwafels, and ripe banana. On the palate, chamomile tea, orange peel, milk chocolate, and cardamom deliver balance and warmth. The finish brings savoury pretzels, salted bread, caramelised brown sugar, and cola. Bottled at 46% ABV, this release is smooth, spiced, and charming.

Why These Bottlings Matter

Both whiskies reflect Cadenhead’s commitment to honest, unadulterated Scotch: always bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, and free of artificial colouring. Together, they showcase the diversity of Scottish whisky—Craigellachie with its bold Speyside richness, and Tomatin with its Highland smoothness and balance.

For collectors and connoisseurs, these releases are must-try drams that highlight the artistry of independent bottling.

Ardnamurchan Launches “The Midgie” 2025 Edition Worldwide

In May 2025, Ardnamurchan Distillery introduced the second edition of its seasonal single malt, The Midgie, with a global launch that follows a successful UK-exclusive debut in 2024. The 2025 release blends 75% unpeated with 25% peated whisky, aged in a combination of bourbon barrels (50%), Ruby Port barriques (48%), and a small amount of sherry casks (2%).

Tasting notes describe a complex profile: a nose of gammon ham, torched pineapple, and sweet strawberry jam, followed by a palate of salt-baked pear, meadowsweet, sultanas, cherrywood embers, and pink peppercorns. The finish lingers with a touch of smoke and a balance of sweet and salty elements.

The refreshed design features a new label character—Myrtle McItchy—illustrated by Arne Wern , replacing the previous year’s Smidge-themed art. A QR code on the label offers deeper insight into the whisky’s creation. With 16,500 bottles released globally, this edition marks Ardnamurchan’s commitment to playful innovation and expanding market reach.

Discover the Power of 100 Proof: Craigellachie 2014 & Glenlossie 2012

Scotland - Speyside

Two powerful single malts from renowned distilleries — both bottled at 57.1% ABV (100 Proof) — bring bold flavor and carefully balanced intensity. Not cask strength, but intentionally bottled at high proof for a richer, fuller experience.

Craigellachie 2014 – 10 Years – 100 Proof Edition #39

This edition of Craigellachie matured in a flavorful combination of first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, second-fill Oloroso sherry casks, and re-charred hogsheads. Expect a big, chewy dram full of rich leather, toasted oak, stewed fruits, roasted coffee, and dark chocolate. The finish delivers warming spices, butterscotch, and raspberry coulis — a meaty, deeply layered whisky that exemplifies Craigellachie’s famously muscular style.
